What Does Corporate Video Even Mean? A Simple Breakdown

To me, a corporate video is a very general term that can mean several things. In this post, I’ll give my perspective on the subject as someone who has been in the corporate video industry for many years.

The real definition of corporate video

Definition #1

“We made a corporate video for our company last year.”

In this case, the speaker is referring to a single video that they produced for their company that gives a general overview of the business. This could be a narration or interview-based video with visuals.

The term corporate video is often reserved for larger companies. Here are two examples:

Definition #2

“Our video company produces corporate videos.

Now, the speaker is not talking about videos that give a general overview of large companies. They are speaking about the types of videos they create inside the video production industry. This is called corporate video production.

What is corporate video production?

Corporate video production involves filming real people in everyday companies. This also can include animated videos. The difference between regular video production and corporate is there are generally no actors, no super creative ads, or flashy product videos.

This can take many forms, but it generally falls into three categories: marketing, communications and HR.

Types of marketing videos

  • Video testimonials

  • Company overview videos

  • Animated videos

  • Product Demos

Types of communication videos

  • Internal/external communications

  • Messages to shareholders

  • Event recap videos

Types of HR videos

  • Recruitment videos

  • Employee testimonials

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion videos

  • Training videos

  • Company culture videos

Final thoughts

"Corporate video" is a general term that varies in meaning across different contexts. Essentially, it refers to B2B (business-to-business) video content rather than B2C (business-to-consumer). This includes not only marketing videos but also encompasses internal videos for the human resources and communications departments, such as training videos, employee communications, and company updates.
